Jackie Earle Haley has been unmasked as the latest incarnation of horror movie icon Freddy Krueger in a remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street.
Haley - who earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance as a convicted sex offender in 2006 drama Little Children - has signed to star as Krueger, the knife-fingered killer who haunts teenagers' dreams, Variety says.
The Elm Street franchise is being revived by studio New Line and production company Platinum Dunes.
Filming is set to begin next month in Chicago, the report says.
Krueger starred in a total of eight films and two television spin-offs after making his debut in director Wes Craven's 1984 classic.
The chilling character, originally played by Robert Englund, became one of the most popular horror villains of 1980s cinema.
Haley, 47, made his name as a child actor in 1970s comedy The Bad News Bears before reviving his career with Little Children.
He recently starred in the comic book adaptation Watchmen and is due to appear in Martin Scorsese's upcoming Shutter Island with Leonardo DiCaprio.
