For fans who are avid readers of the Dune novel series and crave new adventures like the spice of Arrakis itself, they are in for a treat as the possibility of another movie adaptation based on Frank Herbert's epic series has just come one step closer to reality.

The official Herbert family message boards have announced that after several rounds of intense negotiations a new "Dune" project was ready to be finalized. Over the last few months, the site has claimed that negotiations were taking place and in fact had been taking place for a number of years but have never come to anything until now.

"We're getting very close to a deal. Heard that news today," the administrator for the forum said, according to the CHUD Web site. "I've heard that someone at the studio wants Dune really bad and has been a fan of the novel for 'years.' They're not saying who this is (and it might just be hype) but I'm holding out hope that whoever this might be is a big enough fan that he/she will do the book justice. Supposedly it's some director."

Although the original "Dune" novel was first published in 1965, the intricate story has become one of science-fiction's most durable series. In 1984, director David Lynch took a shot at adapting the novel through a big screen movie starring Patrick Stewart, Brad Dourif and Kyle McLachlan. Since then, The SciFi Channel has also re-created the fantastical world of Arrakis through two miniseries revolving around the events of "Dune," "Dune Messiah" and "Children of Dune." That project however faced tough criticism due to budgetary constraints but was welcomed by fans worldwide.

Following the passing of author Frank Herbert in 1986, sci-fi author Kevin J. Anderson (known best for his novelizations of the Star Wars franchise) landed the rights to continue the saga with Herbert's son Brian. Together they have continued to build on the ideas that were originally penned by Herbert and have built one of the largest original novel series currently in publication.

i remember seeing the movie and i did'nt mind it. it had sting in it.

I think they should bring the other DUNE Books to the screen as either movies or mini-series like the Sci-Fi Channel did with DUNE and Children of the Dune.

WE don't really need another DUNE movie remake? You can discuss the 1984 Film in the films Thread below(A to K).
