Role reversals, power struggles and romance transform ‘Eureka’

The following story contains MINOR SPOILERS for the upcoming second season of "Eureka."

When "Eureka" returns to the SciFi Channel for its second season on July 10, expect some big changes and complications for Allison Blake (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), Nathan Stark (Ed Quinn), and Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson). Hearts are going to break, flames will be rekindled, and the requisite chaos will ensue. So, what is going to change in "Eureka?"

Nathan is no longer head of Global Dynamics. "Last year we ... ended where Nathan's character was getting a little obsessed with the Artifact," Richardson-Whitfield said at a recent press preview. "At the end, there was a huge explosion, and because of that he loses his job, and I take over as the head of Global Dynamics."

Instead, Stark will return to being a scientist, which in turn results in Stark and ex-wife Allison becoming closer. "I start seeing the man I fell in love with instead of the sort of power-hungry head of Global," Richardson-Whitfield added.

The change in roles also means other changes for Allison. Does this mean she will become as crazed and power hungry as her ex was when he was head of Global Dynamics? What will it do to her relationship with both Stark and Sheriff Carter?

For Stark, the change will be dramatic. Quinn explained "It seemed a bit jarring right off the bat to suddenly lose my job, and not just lose my job, but then lose my job to my estranged wife and [lose] all my secrets." He also said Allison and Stark become even closer. "We rekindle the relationship ... Her new position puts a strain on Carter and Allison's relationship."

There is also word that Carter's ex-wife will show up. If you want to know what this means for Carter and the rest of the characters in Eureka, you’ll have to watch the show.

"Eureka" is a town of quirky super-geniuses who work on top-secret government-funded projects to develop weapons and new technologies, and explore strange phenomena. Inevitably something goes wrong with some wild test or experiment, and it is up to the sheriff and residents of the town to resolve the problem before it destroys the Earth.

"Eureka" will air Tuesdays on SciFi Channel.
