WE keep you informed of the proposed prequel film 'The Hobbit' the JR tolkien story prelude to LOTR. "The Hobbit is set in a time "between the dawn of Faerie and the Dominion of Men and follows the quest of home-loving Bilbo Baggins."
Sir Ian McKellen, who shot to international fame as the wizard Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings films, says he will be disappointed if he is not asked to reprise the role in the movie version of the JRR Tolkien book The Hobbit.
Sir Ian McKellen is keen to play Gandalf again
The 68-year-old actor played the character in the Academy Award-winning trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson.
A legal battle with studio New Line Cinema over royalties means Jackson will not direct The Hobbit. But Sir Ian is keen to play his part, despite the New Zealand director's departure.
"When Peter announced he had withdrawn from The Hobbit, he sent me an e-mail saying 'Because I am not going to do it, it doesn't mean you have to do the same. Of course, you must play Gandalf, whether I direct or not'," Sir Ian told the Reuters news agency.
He added: "I suppose if I am still functioning and working well, it is very likely I would be asked to do it and if I were, I would be very pleased to do it.
"I am glad to read that it is looking more and more likely ... I would be disappointed if they didn't want to have the original Gandalf."

Peter Jackson will now be producing The Hobbit films which is good news.
Quote:
The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson has settled his differences with New Line Cinema and will executive-produce a two-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, the studio announced.
New Line and MGM signed a deal to co-finance and co-distribute The Hobbit and a sequel to the film. New Line will handle distribution in North America, and MGM will distribute internationally, the two studios said. It's unclear whether Jackson will helm the films.
New Line added that it and Jackson have settled all litigation over Jackson's profit participation in the $3 billion-grossing Rings trilogy, without giving details. The settlement apparently brings to an end the acrimonious split between Jackson and New Line.
Jackson and Fran Walsh will executive-produce the films, to be shot simultaneously, and New Line will manage their production.
Preproduction will begin soon, and principal photography is tentatively set for 2009. The release of the first film is slated for 2010 and the sequel in 2011.
Jackson, MGM chairman and chief executive Harry Sloan and New Line co-chairman and co-chief executives Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne jointly made the announcement on Dec. 18.

Mexican film-maker Guillermo del Toro has confirmed he is likely to direct The Hobbit and a sequel in New Zealand's capital city.
Del Toro told Entertainment Weekly he may also be involved in co-writing the script for The Hobbit with New Zealanders Peter Jackson, Fran Walshe and Phillippa Boyens.
The Oscar winning trio are based at Park Road Studios in Wellington's eastern suburbs.
Del Toro said he was in negotiations to direct the $US150 million ($A163.77 million) films, but the deal was yet to be signed off.
"All I can say is creatively we are all in sync and eager to commit and move forward."
Jackson and Walshe are expected to be co-producers.
Del Toro directed box office hits Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy.
Do you think he will do a good job with directing The Hobbit?

‘Hobbit’ Director Guillermo Del Toro Says Script, Visualization, Casting Under Way.
.January 22nd, 2009
With work on “The Hobbit” really starting to move forward, Guillermo del Toro updated MTV News this week with exclusive scripting, casting and pre-production news, including confirmation that “Hellboy” creator Mike Mignola will be coming aboard for early visualization.
“We are sketching and designing with Weta’s John Howe, and [Adam Lee],” del Toro offered. “Mike Mignola is coming soon. He’s going to do a stint on the design team.” This is good news for fans of Mignola, who worked with del Toro on both “Hellboy” films as well as providing some art for “Pan’s Labyrinth.”
“In about two, three months we’re going to full-on have more designers come on … from outside Weta. But we are already about a good third of the road [along] with some of the creatures — some really interesting and strong designs.”
