The CW has released their schedule for next season, and the cast list for Smallville season 8 might be missing a person or three, though Allison Mack's deal to appear apparently came after the announcement. Interestingly, Kristin Kreuk is on the cast list.
Here's the Smallville write-up:
Returning for its eighth season, this new interpretation of the enduring Superman mythology and its classic characters blends realism and adventure into an exciting action series. Last season, Clark Kent and Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) became the sworn enemies that comic book aficionados have always known and loved. The season also brought storylines of Krypton and the El family, including the arrival of Clark's cousin Kara, a.k.a. Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort), and the return of Brainiac (James Marsters).
There were also exciting guest stars from the Superman mythology, including Dean Cain ("Lois & Clark") and Helen Slater ("Supergirl"). Clark discovered more about his home planet, who his parents were, what his future holds and why he was sent to Earth. The series stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang, Erica Durance as Lois Lane and Aaron Ashmore as Jimmy Olsen. Reinterpreting the Superman mythology from its roots, SMALLVILLE was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar ("Shanghai Noon," "Spiderman 2"), based on the DC Comics characters. The executive producers are Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer, James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Casting Has Begun For Smallville's Two New Season 8 Characters
The casting process has begun for the two new characters of Smallville Season 8, and we have some hits as to what their first scenes may include.
Keep in mind that these introductory scenes might not be what hits the air in September. For example, when producers were casting for Jason Teague back in 2004, there was a scene involving Lana and a Vespa that did not get filmed in the actual show.
DAVIS BLOOME: The "screen test" scenes involving Davis Bloome take place at the Ace O'Clubs bar. All of his scenes involve his character interacting, and in some ways dangerously flirting with, Lois.
- They first meet when Lois comes into the bar with a guy on her mind - a "really confusing, mysterious and oddly sexy friend."
- Later, Davis wakes up on the couch at the Ace O'Clubs with stains of blood on his hand. He claims it's because a waitress broke a tray of glasses. Or is it something else, something more violent?
- Davis aggressively demands that Lois not tell anyone about what she sees.

TESS: Tess introduces herself to Clark as she is snooping around the Kent Farm, and Clark catches her.
- She is introduced as the person who is in charge of Lex Luthor's estate "in his absence." She also knows very well about the Kents' connections to Lionel Luthor.
- In another scene, Tess confronts Jimmy in the Daily Planet archive room, and knows all about the deal that he had made to work for Lex.

eighth season, fans will be introduced to some new characters. Two new individuals who will complicate Clark Kent's life are Tess Mercer, played by Cassidy Freeman, and Davis Bloome, played by Sam Witwer. Though these are both brand new characters, they have some roots in the Superman mythology, including the comic books as well as previous movie and TV versions. In this edition, we'll take a look at Tess Mercer, and some of the influences that make up this new femme fatale's background.
The seventh season finale, "Arctic," left the Fortress of Solitude in ruins in the wake of Clark Kent and Lex Luthor's final confrontation. With Lex apparently missing after this event, Tess Mercer will debut in the season premiere to manage LuthorCorp in his stead. This beautiful, smart, no-nonsense businesswoman carries a strong devotion to her missing boss, claiming that Lex once saved her life. Her name, Tess Mercer, suggests two primary influences from previous Superman lore...
In the 1978 "Superman" movie, Lex Luthor's right-hand woman was Eve Teschmacher, played by Valerie Perrine. She assisted him in his various criminal schemes, including stealing some nuclear missiles. She and Lex had a strange relationship that, in fact, bordered on abusive, as Lex occasionally threatened her with physical violence (a scene cut from the theatrical version but restored on the extended DVD involves Luthor about to feed Miss Teschmacher to a pit of hungry animals). Her loyalty to Lex was not unwavering... she ultimately saved Superman from certain death after Lex exposed him to kryptonite and tossed him into a watery grave. Much of Lex and Miss Teschmacher's love-hate relationship was played for comedy, with Gene Hackman's frustrated bellowing "Miss Teschmaacheeer!" being a recurring and memorable element of their scenes together.
Miss Teschmacher returned for the 1980 sequel, "Superman II," when she broke Lex out of prison via hot-air balloon, then accompanied him to the Fortress of Solitude. She was strangely absent from the second half of the film, once Lex fell in league with General Zod and the other Kryptonian villains. More footage of Valerie Perrine as Miss Teschmacher can be seen in the recently released "Superman II: The Donner Cut."
In the 1990s, "Superman: The Animated Series" introduced Mercy Graves, Lex's chauffeur and bodyguard. Mercy was voiced by Lisa Edelstein, who can be seen as Dr. Lisa Cuddy on "House M.D." The episode "Ghost In The Machine" shed some light on their relationship, revealing that Mercy was homeless and living on the streets before Lex took her in and offered her a job.
