The actor who will portray John Connor in the upcoming Fox show "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" will put a new spin on the character while remembering what he's been through in the Terminator movies, according to SciFi Wire.
Thomas Dekker, who played Zach on NBC's "Heroes," follows Edward Furlong and Nick Stahl in bringing John Connor to life.
"It's terrific to be in such good company with the other actors who've played this part. It's a great responsibility, I feel, to do it right," Dekker said during an interview at the recent Saturn Awards ceremony. "Obviously, I don't want to ignore what's already there, but where our story is in the pilot is very different from where John's story was in the films. So I tried to infuse the right parts of him, but really try and invent my own character at the same time. It's quite a difficult balance."
One of the things that Dekker feels will be helpful as the show proceeds is the close relationship he developed with Lena Headey, who plays Sarah Connor, John's mother, while they filmed the series pilot in New Mexico for two months.
"That's probably the biggest gift of doing the pilot, was Lena and I became literally inseparable," he said. "We're so close. And I can think of nothing better than working with her every day. She's British and all my family is British, and so I'm there all the time. It's a good bond."
Fox will announce its fall schedule officially on May 17, but advance word is that the show has been picked up for series.
