Family Guy does Star Warsult animated series Family Guy is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Star Wars in its typical off-the-wall manner, retelling the first instalment of the sci-fi saga using Family Guy characters.
According to Variety, Star Wars mastermind George Lucas has given his blessing to the hour-long episode, which will premiere in the US in September and kick off the next season of the controversial cartoon.
The episode opens during a blackout when the Griffin family's TV has stopped working, prompting Peter Griffin to entertain his clan by retelling the story of the classic film.
Variety reveals that fans can look forward to Peter stepping into the role of Han Solo, wife Lois playing bun-haired beauty Princess Leia, and evil baby Stewie as Darth Vader.
Other Family Guy favourites will also appear in the Star Wars special: Chris Griffin as Luke Skywalker, family dog Brian as Chewbacca, Cleveland and Quagmire as R2-D2 and C-3PO respectively, and creepy old man Herbert as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
In true Family Guy style, Meg Griffin - who is constantly insulted by other characters - appears to have been snubbed by the special. Her Star Wars counterpart is yet to be revealed.
