John Scott Martin Passes Away(1926 - 2009)

John Scott Martin was a well known Dalek Operator on Doctor Who in the 60's, 70's and early 80's. Exterminate! RIP John!

We join other Doctor Who fans in mourning the passing of John Scott Martinhn Scott Martin (1926-2009) who passed away at the age of 82 on the 6th of January 2009 while battling Parkinson's disease.

Appearing in more than 110 episodes of Doctor Who, he may have been best known as being the chief Dalek operator. "I always thought playing a Dalek was as interesting as playing a cow in a pantomime - there was potential to put some personality into it. We had to believe that the Dalek was not a human being, yet it was still a being. That's not to say it wasn't really nasty," he had stated.

He had hoped to return to the series when it returned to television screens in 2005 as this BBC story indicates from 2004, Dalek veteran makes comeback bid.

His part in Doctor Who were not just limited to Daleks, as he played other roles such as a miner in The Green Death during the duration of the series original run. In addition he has worked in films such as Pink Floyd's The Wall, Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, and Eric the Viking.
