If you thought that Joss Whedon had left the world of small screen entertainment forever, then you’d better think again. Whedon, best known for creating "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," is back with a new series starring former slayer Eliza Dushku.
According to Variety, "Dollhouse" has been given an initial seven-episode order by Fox with the option for more. This comes following an agreement that was signed between Dushku and Fox to develop projects together. The deal was sealed in August after the network expressed how impressed they were by Dushku's versatility as an actress.
Whedon, who also created the science fiction western “Firefly,” has expressed a desire to return to television following “Serenity” and already has a running plot for the seven episodes. The show revolves around Echo (Dushku) a Government agent who is programmed to carry out a mission and then has her memory wiped upon completion. After so many wipes, Echo then becomes aware of the process and starts to develop an awareness of who she really is.
With the Hollywood writers strike looming, Fox plans to have the series in production for Spring with episodes ready for broadcast so far in advance that if an additional episode order was placed, the network could easily begin transmission of a full season without any breaks. The advanced production also gives Whedon the ability to hammer out any problems with the structure and formula of the series before it eventually hits the airwaves.
Dushku’s was last seen in Fox’s “Tru Calling” series that was cancelled in its second year after only a handful of episodes and will have a full producer role on the series. |
