Should the series continue for a ninth season, “Smallville” will need two new executive producers. Producers Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin will be leaving the show at season’s end to work on the CW’s revival of “Melrose Place.”
No word yet on who might replace the two as producers on the series. The Los Angeles Times indicated that Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson would be the leading candidates to assume the show-runner duties.
And while there’s no offical renewal yet for a season nine, sources say a ninth season green-light is imminent. The big hold up appears to be finalizing a contract with series star Tom Welling.
However, according to reports should Welling choose to not return for a ninth season, producer are already working on ways for the series to finish and begin a new spin-off series.
